SPEECH BY RT. REV. BISHOP PHILIP ANYOLO; THE PRESIDENT OF CARITAS KENYA AND PRINCIPAL ADMINISTRATOR OF THE KENYA CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS (KCCB) DURING THE LAUNCH OF GLOBAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST HUNGER- ‘ONE HUMAN FAMILY, FOOD FOR ALL.’

Bishop_2Today, Caritas fraternity in Kenya joins Pope Francis together with billions of people spread across the world in prayer, to participate in the Global campaign against hunger dubbed ‘One Human Family, Food for All.’

The prayer marks the official launch of the Caritas Anti-Hunger Campaign, ‘One human family, food for all,’ which aims at ending global hunger by 2025. As you may know, this launch of the campaign is in line with the UN celebration of the World Human Rights day.

It is true that not every person in Kenya has access to food. It is indeed this reason; that all of us must be inspired to work together, now more than ever before, towards having a nation that is food secure.

Access to food is a basic need which cannot be ignored. As one human family, we are committed in our charitable work to ensure that every person in Kenya has adequate food.

I note with deep appreciation, many lives which have been positively transformed and empowered through food security and livelihoods projects implemented throughout the 25 Caritas Diocesan Offices all over the country.

It is through these acts of Charity with your help and that of our Partners, that we are able to reach millions of vulnerable Kenyans across the country.

I call upon you all, to continue witnessing God’s love to all whom God brings into our path, by feeding and clothing those unable to.  In doing so, we shall win evil by good and in God’s words, demonstrate His love to those who need it most- the poor.

By showing His love and affection, by empowering the poor amongst us, by improving the living standards through access of basic needs, we shall daily, win life’s challenges.

During the ‘Global Week of Action’ on 12-14th October, 2014; this campaign will urge our National governments to work towards guaranteeing Kenyan citizens the right to food in an effort to alleviate hunger from their countries.

Caritas fraternity all over Kenya will demonstrate to the public food security projects at various Catholic Dioceses in Kenya urging the public to contribute to charitable work towards building a food secure nation.

I urge you all, to actively be part of this noble course.  I further urge the nation and all the people of good will to participate in this campaign.

As stated by our Caritas President in Rome, Cardinal Oscar Rodríguez Maradiaga, there is indeed; enough food to feed the planet. We believe that with your help, we can end hunger by 2025.

Finally during this advent season, let us reflect on Christ’s generosity to all people who truly need our help and make a resolve to be part of this mission. I take this opportunity to wish you a fruitful advent and a blessed Christmas.
