The Catholic Justice and Peace Commission was formed in 1998 as the executive arm of the Kenya conference of Catholic Bishops on matters of peace and justice. The CJPC works to fulfil KCCB-GS’s objective of promoting justice and challenging oppressive structures in the society. CJPC’s broad aim is to sensitise individuals, communities, and the whole nation on justice, peace issues, and their respective roles and duties in addressing peace development, human advancement and human rights.

Some of the Commission’s programmes include: democratisation and governance, peace building and conflict resolution, Lenten Campaign, voter education, general election observation, and constitutional reform programmes. The Commission has established strong networks across the country which has made it very effective in its operations.
